Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the little arrows that show on all the desktop icons? I know they are shortcuts, but can the arrows be removed?
Dave.

Download Tweakui from MS site, it has ever had an option to turn that critter off http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/wink.gif

Herb, I do have X-Tech Set Up, downloaded here, can I do it using that program?
Dave.

Yes Dave, xsetup does it too, look here:

Appearance - Explorer - Shortcuts - Shortcut Arrow.
You can also remove the "shortcut to" text for any new shortcuts created after making the changes.

If you don't have ant tweaking software installed (xsetup or tweakUI etc), look here (http://www.regedit.com/detail/75.html) for the registry tweaks that these programs perform for you.

Thank you Smurfy, I did try to find where you can lose the arrows on X-setup, I must have missed it because I thought it couldn't do it!! So then I downloaded Tweak UI, and got rid of 'em using that!!!
Which one of these programs do think would be best to keep? I don't see the point in having them both, unless you feel the need for them both!
Dave.

Lufbra,

Personally, I don't use either instead preferring to hack the registry manually myself. But that has drawbacks to anyone not used to doing so. For instance they'll probably forget what they've modified if they don't like the results.

TweakUI has differing effects on different peoples systems. 3/4 of people have no problems with it and love it. But a select few find that it crushes their system big time. Whether that's the fault of the user or the program is debatable.

X-Setup gives more options but is a much bigger program. I've used it and liked it.

IMHO there is no replacement for manual modifications because then you dont have to clutter your HDD with the program in the 1st place, and in TweakUI's case you then don't need to have something load at boot.

Personal choice really lol What a long post just to say that http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Thank you Mishy.
I am rather scared of touching anything in the registry, without any kind of help as to what to do. I tried removing something from the registry a while ago, and boy did it mess up the computer, took me ages to get it back to normal, my lesson was learned, I won't touch it now!!!
As far as having the files on the hard drive, it is a pretty big hard drive (20gigs), so that really isn't too big a problem yet, and I don't think I have Tweak UI loading on boot up, although I might be wrong there, maybe I should open up Start Up Cop, and see if it is running!!!
I do like the X-set up program, although it is a larger file, as you say, it offers a lot more.
Dave.
