I first wanted to thank our member "Grinler" from over in the Cyber Safety forum for helping me fix my registry virus !

Im stuck having to use my old Packard Hell from the late 90's due to a child who needed a better puter and im happy to do it for him and as a matter of fact I have no ill feelings towards my Packard. Im knocking on wood as we speak but since its such a small system its easy to maintain and runs very well..just slow..lol. Did upgrade to 48 ram..ha ha. The big problem with me is little disk drive space. You would be suprised what all I have on this tiny little thing but I have to clear temp internet files everyday and delete things others might keep on their puters.

My question is not about temp internet files , it's about just plain temp files. Left over .exe files from installers of programs past and crap loads of these bitmaps that look like advertisements for movies. I call them cookies with pictures. Also lots of yahoo files I don't know what they are? A few .dll files, etc. I deleted a few things awhile back that I noticed were from trial versions of paintshop pro, etc. and was suprised how much space I cleared.

Can I just clean this whole damn Temp folder out ? Could somebody explain to me how long a program relies on these files ? I need the space ! Also since im low on space im in search of a small but effective anti virus program. I downloaded and installed "Vcatch", because it was so small in size but the damn thing sent my .exe file for browser blaster and Yahelite to the recycle bin and without knowing it was in there with some other stuff I just cleaned out, deleted them. It's no biggie cause they still run and they are both free progs that I could download again if the need arose. Vcatch did what it said, send things it found could be infected to the recycle bin but it was prolly just a file in them that it picks up as dirty? Housecall picks up AVG as being a virus, I heard from a friend?

So what virus prog would you use for a puter with small hardrive...AVG never will send me the activation code, so im done with them and it wont find viruses that Housecall will, plus it's even allitle big for what I wanted.. I run housecall, and spybot and have a yahoo prog that tests for keyloggers, etc, but won't scan anything but exe files.. Don't I need a prog that will scan all types of files for a host of virues and trojans ?

Thanks in advance !....David

no problems deleting all files in the folder. It won't delete any that is being use. Also pcmag has a utility that will help with cleaning up. Check out hdvalet (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,26680,00.asp).

And this is a very nice program as well (http://www.cybertechhelp.com/html/downloads/download.php/id/2). Lots of good stuff at that page...;)

Hi Dave

Shortage of Disk space on older systems can be a problem when running newer applications. Have you considered adding a second hard drive? Or running a compression utility. Depending on your operating system there may be several available to you.

A few details of your OS, the size of the HDD, the available space, how much RAM you have, will help us when considering this for you. BF
