Best choice for an inexpensive laptop?

I'd like to buy a basic, dependable laptop for someone who really doesn't need a fast processor...uses it mostly for Word and for chatting online?

What would you recommend for an inexpensive laptop? What about buying new vs. refurbished laptops at reliable online sites?

Thanks!

check out the laptops at hp.com. imo, they have the best cheap ones. As far as getting a used one - no way, no warranty and do not know how it was treated. Refurbished - tough to get a good warranty most I have seen was only for 90 days.
