I try to access my brother's computer over the home network, but i get this message:

"\\NAME is not accesible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer"

It worked before, but i just reformatted my computer, so it doesnt work anymore. does anyone know how i can fix this problem?

the computers all in the same workgroup. i can see the workgroup, and access it, i can see and access myself, but sometimes the othere computers on the network dont show up, but when they do, if i try to access them, i get teh mesage i posted above. also anyone trying to access my computer gets the message.

What Operating Systems?
Do you have any Firewalls?

ok, i found the firewall that trendmicro put up and turned it off. now whenever i try to access my workgroup 'mshome' i get this message:

Mshome is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact teh adminstrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available.

and the other computer doesnt see me at all.

Hi

Ok look at the basics

1. Both Computers need to be part of the same workgroup i.e. "Workgroup2 or "MSHOME"
2. Make sure both have the same protocols if TCPIP / NETBEUI Etc..
3. If it XP / 2000 just to test run on the guest accound
4. Turn off all Firewalls just to test.

OK

So Computers are as Follows

Name = Computer1 and Computer2
Workgroup = MSHOME
TCPIP = 192.168.10.1 and 192.168.10.2
Submask = 255.255.255.0

Now try and PING each other; are we talking..? if yes your networked if not then look at other problems NIC / CABLING

ok, im kind of getting there. there are 3 computers in my home network. mine, my brothers, and my fathers. i can see all 3 computers in my workgroup, and access my brothers and mine, but when i try to access my fathers i get "the user has not been granted the requested logon type". My brother cannot access either computer, and im not sure what my fathers computer can access.

Hi

Are they Xp Pro or XP home. You may need to create users to match their login names. better still turn guest account on. This is not allways the best thing to do but once you have turned it see if they get access to what your sharing; if they do then you can leave as is or create accounts on each computer to match user name and then turn guest account off.

OK...
