Okay, you may have been asked this many times, but where should I download any files or programs? Whenever I download them, it is usually to the desktop. I also use Download Accelorator Plus, which puts any download onto the desktop, I don't think there is any other choice using that, but I might be wrong!!
After downloading, I do run a virus scan on the file before going ahead and installing. Once the program is installed, I can't seem to remove the "install file" from the desktop! I've tried dragging and dropping it into a folder, I've tried right clicking on it and sending it elsewhere, but both of these only creates shortcuts. I've even sent files to the recycle bin, and got rid of them that way, I'm warned that this is a program file or whatever, and that I might lose everything it contains, I've gone ahead and trashed them, without losing the actual program.
Any advice or tips would be muchly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Dave.

OK Dave, lets see if I get this in the right order:
1) Where do I download files to?
My preference is to download to a different partition from my C:\ drive entirely, just as added precaution against virii.
I have a folder D:\Downloads and send all downloads there.
If you haven't got seperate partitions/drives, create a folder like c:\Downloads. keep it away from any Windows subdirectory (maybe that's paranoia/overkill).
2) How do I tell DAP to put them there by default?
Open DAP, Downloads >> Options/Configurations.
General Options - First option is Default Donload Directory, click browse button to set it.
3) How do I move/Delete it after installation?
Delete: Single left click to highlight, press Delete key. Click yes to warning message "Are you sure..."
or:
Right click, select Delete on pop-up menu.
or:
Right click and drag to recycle bin, choose "move here" from pop-up menu that appears when you release right mouse button.
Move:
Right-click and drag and pick "move here" from pop-up menu (you will notice for *.exe files the bold "default" action is "create shortcut here".
Deleting the downloaded installation file will not effect the program once it is installed but that is the file you should save/back-up if you ever want to re-install. Save it to floppy/cd whatever you use for backup.

Hey Dave DAP is a great little program.
There is a feature to change the default *store* location. I have a DLTEMP folder that I store my downloads in. If the download turns out to be of value I then move the zip or Setup files (exe) to my *Setup* directory where I have folders labeled like utilities, music, games, ect..
To change the *store* location for DAP do this. Open the program and Click on Downloads and point to Options/configuration
you will see the two *Save TO* boxes. The first one is the default download directory and the second is a temp folder that the program will download to when the download is completed then the download is moved to the download directory.
Edit: Boy I type slow. LOL

Thank you very much guys.
I have created a c:\download folder now, and will from now on send any downloads to that folder, I don't have partitions yet, still looking into that, trying to figure out whether I really need to do that kind of thing.
I've also configured DAP and hopefully the downloads from that will go to the same download folder.
Yes it is a great program, I do recommend it to everyone.
Dave.
