Last night I decided to do the unthinkable, something that everyone wants or needs to do but keeps putting it off. Something confusing that it really drives you bonkers, something so intimidating that your blood pressure rises as you do it, something so nasty that you really need to wear gloves to do it. In other words, it was time to clean under the computer desk and sort through the wiring.

There was three computers worth of wiring for two computers under there, enough dust to decorate a haunted house, food that I know Ihad not eaten in months, a few important notes that I lost, and a soda cap where I won a free Dr Pepper (have not had a soda in over a year), and a few other things I will not go into detail about.

All I got to say is after over 5 hours of taking thinks apart, cleaning, dusting, realigning the wires, hunting and finding the right power cord for the right attachment, and finally getting my computers put back together correctly, things are set for another couple of years :-) And most important of all, it is safe for me to put my feet barefooted under the desk again without worring about getting bitten by something, stepping on something nasty or electrocuting myself.

What about yours?? :D

Right now, under my desk is:

1 Golden Retreiver (alive, but asleep).

Central Point 'PC Tools For DOS', unopened (for my antique software collection).

Either an M&M, or a cockroach. It hasn't moved in awhile, so I'm thinking M&M.

That's it! :)

Or that you haven't been dropping enough crumbs and the cockroach has died of malnutrition

Two laptop carrycases, one feather duster, two cans of compressed air, 3 dead mice (the plastic variety), a couple of serial connectors, two fileboxes full of very old floppies, one spare powerstrip, a stereo headphone with microphone set that I didnt even know I owned, one fully featured dynalink 33.6k external data fax modem still in its box, an empty box that once held a cellphone, a ruler, an antistatic bracelet and a briefcase. :rotflmao:

Recently tidied up (moved desk to different part of living room) so:
1 laptop (D.O.A)
Couple of anti-stat bags
Box containing sevreral COAs, manuals, Jewel case inserts etc
Live mouse (plastic variety :) )
Quite a few meters of cable (must invest in some cable ties - no on second thought, I move my hardware around between PCs too much, I'd curse them the first time I wanted to move something).
The TOP of my desk on the other hand... I'm to scared to touch anything in case it all comes a tumbling down!

Under my desk is the very pretty deflated blowup doll named Bambie because Buzz stole my electric air pump.. Sad story so I will let it go at that.. :cry2:

So if you blow it up the old fashioned way, are you then too tired to do anything with it?

My desk: usual stuff like bales of cables (unspecified) dead compaq M600, loads of usb cable b-ends (wont look for the a-end),
plus 1x 100watt lightbulb,
a beanie hat similar to the commander in M*A*S*H's,
1 lottery ticket 17th April 2004 ("you've got to be in it to win it" - but the right numbers help a lot too!!!!)
an hotel loyalty card,
a nib for a hyperdermic - still sealed (dunno where that came from),
a partially used roll of sticky-backed plastic ("heres one I made earlier"),
two firebricks and about an inch of dust (builders are in).
No animals to speak of tonight (live or prosthetic)

It's usually a right mess, but I'm moving the workstation every 5 minutes at the moment and the kids have all commandeered the fully functioning laptops cos their rooms are in bits (q.v. builders).
