This is my first post so

I'm currently having a bit of a mare getting my internet and wireless network to gel and wondered if anyone had any thoughts on the matter or could point me in the right direction for some info.

This is my first attempt at networking so if I make any glaring gaffs that'll be the reason why

I'm running XP Pro sp2 on both rigs with a Realtek RTL8139 PCI 10/100 Ethernet card on the main rig. Connected to this is a D-Link DI 524 router (default ip 192.168.0.1). I then have a D-Link DSL-300T modem (default ip 192.168.1.1) between the router and the internet. On the laptop I'm using a D-Link DWL-G630 card.

I can connect to the internet on the main machine. I also have a network connection between my main machine and the laptop but no internet connectivty.

my understanding is that all ips would have to be 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x, for example.

But when I try and change the default ip addy on either the router or the modem they just sulk and refufuse to work.

DHCP in enabled on both, I'm not sure if I should be disabling DHCP on one? I tried on the router and the network and internet connection went paer shapped. I had a fun hour trying to reset it again as the browser was trying to log me on to the internet every time I tried to enable DHCP again. So I currently back in the same position as when I started.

Any ideas gratefully recieved as it is starting to drive me nuts :rotflmao:

Welcome :)

So the Laptop is getting an IP Address from the Router and can access the Network.

Can the Laptop access the Net if plugged directly into the Modem?

But your Laptop can access the other machine on the Network?

As a test try a different browser such as Mozilla or Opera.

it would seem to be an IE problem then.

Hve you run Virus & Spyware scans?
