Ok i got a laptop from a friend it is a Toshiba Portege 7000ct and it is running windows 95. When he gave this to me he had nothing for it and i had to go online to get a windows 95 boot disk. Here is the problem though i put the disk in and it starts up and it gets to a screen where it says Windows 95 is starting. But than it takes me to a screen where it says Drive R: Driver Banana unit 0 and than it has A:\> where u type in a command can anyone tell me what command to type in to get windows to start? If u could i would appreciate it.

Thanx,
Toby_Mac

A W95 boot disk is usually meant for Dos game memory problems.
You need Dos disk1 to fdisk and Format, then you need a cdrom flopppy to use the W95 cd.I can send you some of these files.but you need a cdrom driver installation floppy. Please state floppy or cd,when useing disk.
Why not install something else ?

Ok after a long time i got the laptop to where i type in a command where it says A:\> i typed in prompt type and then it said type and i typed in uninstal And it gave me this screen:

Windows 95 Uniinstall

Uninstall removes Windows 95 from your computer and restores your previous versions of MS-DOS and Windows.

If you unistall Windows 95, any programs you installed while running windows 95 will have to be reinstalled. You may also have to reconfigure your swapfile.

Warning: Don not uninstall Windows 95 if u compressed your hard disk after setting up windows 95.

The file C:\MSDOS.SYS is missing or invalid
Error code 3: Path not found

C:\ is not accesible
The file C:\SUHDLOG.--- cannot be opened.
Your disk partition table have been modified since Windows 95 was installed. Your system may not start correctly after uninstalling.

Ok that is what it says. So my question is do you guys think i should uninstall Windows 95 and see what happens? In a few weeks i am gonna buy windows xp and i guess if it messed up i could put xp on here. If you could help i would appreciate it.

Thanx,

Thanx,
Toby_MacBest i can do is you've got a lot to learn before you move on.
If you have a W95 PC it will never support XP.Explain this move.
A complete new XP system is all you can do.
Where have you been since 1995 ?
Of course your here now,is this with W95 and IEX 3 ?

Hello Toby_mac, welcome to Cyber Tech Help. Sorry, you have not got our usual standard of assistance thus far.
Let's start again...
You have:

Toshiba Portege 7000ct
Specifications:
Hard Drive
Hard Drive Capacity 4.3 GB.
Key Features
Display 12.1 in. TFT Active Matrix
Installed Memory 32 MB (SDRAM)
Operating System Microsoft Windows 95
Processor Intel Pentium II 266 MHz
Memory
Installed RAM 32 MB
Max Supported RAM 160 MB.

Windows 95 is currently installed. What happens to this laptop when you boot up WITHOUT a bootdisk. How far does Windows 95 get through the boot process? Please describe what you see.

As far as uninstalling Windows 95, sure you can, but unless you have another operating system that this machine will be capable of running, I think it's safer to fix the Win95 that's already there. This machine will not run XP - insufficient Processor, RAM and Hard Disk. It will happily run 95, or 98 (will cost you $$ even second hand thru e-bay etc) or a recent Linux version with a cut-down desktop (free and legal).

Depending on what you see when you try to boot without the bootdisk (which WAS THE RIGHT THING TO TRY), I can then give you more instructions to assist in determining what our next step will be.

p.s. Please don't start multiple topics for the same problem - I have merged your two topics to keep all the information in one place.

It gets bananas i think and now is looking for s disk that works.
==============
It is not called a Bootdisk, but a System disk back then,,later a startup disk that W98 and Me suggests during install.
My strong point here is getting cdrom support later.Formating this hd is easy.
A W98 "startup floppy" might work but i forgot how i went from 95 to 98.
I probably had a cdrom driver disk. You don't need them after W98,of couse you need a W98 "startup disk." and cdrom support option.
I will email this "real bootdisk"but you havn't replied.
