I'm traveling to the UK with my 12"G4 PowerBook soon, and will be staying with a friend. He has a pc with an available 18 point 10/100 switch which he tells me I can connect my laptop to via a CAT 5 cable and be connected to his internet .
I'm trying to get a clear picture of what this means- will I simply be running a cable from his switch into the ethernet port of my powerbook? Would any CAT 5 cable suffice? Thanks for your help...

Almost any cat 5 cable will work. You just want to make sure you don't grab a crossover cable. These are meant for computer to computer connections and would not work when connecting to a switch. Just pick up a 'Patch Cable' and you should be all set with the cabling.
