I use both these programs, and I am trying to set up Irfan View so's I can send e-mail right from that program. I've downloaded the Irfan plug in that lets me do this, but I can't seem to get it working!! I've tried send a picture with it, it asked for my e-mail address and the SMTP Server, I added both of them, but I cannot seem to add an address that I want the picture to go to!! The option is there, to add the address, but when I put the cursor over that option spot and click, it does nothing!! Well it does, a little "square" is opened, but I can't seem to add an address there!!
Can anyone help me with this, would a re-boot help solve this? When I did download the plug in, it never prompted a re-boot, so I'm not sure if that's cure it, or what!!!
Any help will be muchly appreciated.
Thanks for reading.
Dave.

Never have tried to use it to send an email. I always zip my files first. I am going to give it a try now. http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Restarting a program or rebooting is the first step you should take when you are having a problem. Well that is if there are no error messages. in that case you may want to do a little searching before you give in to the reboot.

Thank you Tram.
Well I don't think there was any errors with downloading this plug in, at least nothing I could find. So I tried the re-boot thing, but still have the same problem!! The little "square" thing I mentioned earlier, is like a drop dow window for adding addresses, I just can't seem to add anything!!!

Hi
Dave try adding the address in the address book under settings where you put your SMTP settings. That is what I did last night when I messed around with it. lThen when you use the drop down settings the address will be there and you can pick the one you want.

Thanks Frosty, that's what I was trying to do, but but the cursor doesn't change and if I click on it (where you type in the address)it just opens up that little drop down window!! The cursor never changes to a vertical line like it does when tyoing!!!

Frosty, I just went into Irfan and tried playing around in the address set up, and where it says "add address" I pressed on that and it chuffin' worked this time!! I have no idea why it wouldn't work last night, and I was just about ready to write off to the makers!!!
So I'm all set with that little problem, time to move onto the next one!!!!

Thanks..

Dave.

No Frosty, keep pulling your hair out, I haven't figured it out yet!!!

In the settings where it say SMTP server (outgoing), I put in....
SMPT.mediaone.net

But this isn't working, so how do I find my SMTP server (outgoing)???

Sorry about this.

Dave.

Hi
Okay are you putting "SMTP.mediaone.net" in the box, if you are, than do this only put in "mediaone.net". Leave off the quotations. I hope this helps you.

You probably need the port identification as well, eg.:
SMTP.myprovider.net:8080

damn, I've been putting off upgrading my Irfanview but I can see I'm going to have to!
Email plugin?! Wow, young mr Skiljan is getting adventurous. Must make some registry changes now?

Thanks Herb, I think you already know what my next question is!!!

Where do I find the port identification??

Have a look into your standard E-Mail client setup. Usually 8080 is the standard, but I've seen also others http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif

Herb, I'm sorry for not getting back here sooner, but I think my OE port is 110. I've tried all kinds of ways to insert the SMTP server, but the Irfan View program says it cannot connect to it!! I sent an e-mail two days ago to the guy who makes Irfan, explaining the problem, but I've heard nothing from him yet, it's frustrating.

110 is than right, however I don't know what the prob might be, I never tried that, as I've all my mail web-based.

Wait upon some reply, but you might consider, he gets hundreds of them http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/frown.gif

OK guys, I've updated my version now and tried this.

Doesn't it strike you as curious that in email configuration, he asks you for email address and smtp server name but how do you think your smtp mail server is going to react when you try to send mail through it without providing your user name and password?
The error that pops up, (501:SMTP server error) will be because your smtp server has refused permision to send the mail because nowhere have you entered your password.

I'm going to do a little digging myself and see if this is a common problem or he may have just not thought this one through!

Thanks guys, I understand it might take a while to get a reply, so that isn't a problem,

Frostyphrog ( another member of this group) tried his, after I started this posting, and he got his working with no problem! Not sure how he did it, I guess it was the same way that I tried mine.

I have a Yahoo e-mail address, maybe I should try that one too, although I'd prefer it to work with my Outlook Express.

Hi,

Sorry, your SMTP server works not like mine :-(
The problem is, I can't test it, my server works like a 'normal' SMTP
server, no any problems, no login needed ...

The current IrfanView version is 3.30

Greetings,
Gruesse,
Pozdrav,

Irfan

That might mean, that you need to have your Outlook session open(active) while trying to send via Irfanview. The SMTP-address in Irfanview should correspond than to any account addressed in Outlook.

The whole thing sounds like a proper configuration of MS-Exchange server, which I've never managed under win98. We've it going at work under NT, but don't ask how our IT-people managed it.

Thanks Herb.
Whenever I'm using the computer, I always hae Outlook Express open, so I guess the plug in is no good for me!!! Not a biggie really, just means I have to open up wherever the picture is, and send it from there!!!

Well I just got a reply form Irfan as well and it's identical to your's Dave.
My guess is, he knows that it won't work with SMTP servers that require password authentication but hasn't figured out how to fix it, LOL
Doesn't make any difference if Outlook or Outlook Express is open and running.

Hi
I use Eudora for my email program and I have Eudora remember my password. I have never used outlook so I don't know if it would be the same or not.

I also have Outlook remembering my password (heck, like I'd remember things like that!!), so I guess that doesn't do the trick!!!

I am really pleased to say that Irfan sent me an e-mail today, with a zip file of a different plug in, I did as he suggested (below) and now Irfan View can actually send e-mails for me, pretty darned cool I'd say!!!!

Hi,

I hope, I have a solution for the problem now ;-)
Please replace the EMAIL.DLL in IrfanView's "Plugins" directory with this
new DLL ...
... and try to send mails now ...

smurfy
November 27th, 2000, 10:05 AM
Dave, Irfan is now mailing the new email dll to all who have emailed him about this. I would say (I'm waiting for him to reply) that this will be uploaded to the all_plugins.zip file on his site for download shortly.

Yet another reason for me to keep singing this guys praises.

Hey Smurfy, do you want the zip file that he sent to me???

Dave.

smurfy
November 28th, 2000, 09:30 AM
Nope Dave, got it about 12 hours after you got yours, Irfan has just mailed me back again to confirm he is including this in the "all-plugins" download ASAP.
