Reformatting hard drive and computer says valid format # not found on disk. Contact Packard Bell or locate original System Credentials and enter format #.
Anyone have info on how to get around this or where to acquire format #.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks :dizzy:

How are you formatting your hard drive ?
Follow the instructions in these Tutorials (http://www.cybertechhelp.com/html/tutorials/index.php)
Delete a Partition, Create a Partition, Format a Partition, Install Windows.

You will need a Windows 98 Startup disk which you can get from Here (http://www.bootdisk.com/)

See this link (http://hardware.mcse.ms/message14578.html) for a discussion of a similar problem.
On the Master Restore CD under the BU folder there is a "A" folder in there,
there are some files 555XXX.SRC this is the format number "555XXX"
Do you have the Master Restore CD?

See this link (http://support.packardbell-europe.com/scripts/rdr.asp?page=/support/faq/article/ART01509.asp&menu=FAQ&cat=Software&lang=1&) for help, also.

# Click the Start button, select Programs and click MS-DOS Prompt.
# If the MS-DOS prompt does not stay at the C:\WINDOWS directory, type CD\WINDOWS and press <Enter>.
# Type the command TYPE PB_FOR.VER and press <Enter>

Hope this helps.

I have gone to the links that you have posted. And one matches my situation exactly: Trying to restore the original settings for a Packard Bell that has DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.11 ( I have an upgrade cd for Windows 95, as well, and mine is only a Legend 8CD).

I have tried everything that the two links suggest. My format# is obviously not the same as the similiar situation explained above.

I can get to the BU directory, but I can not find an "A" file.

Would you please explain to me in the simplest terms possible how I can find the BU folder which is supposed to contain an "A" folder that has the SCR files (which is supposed to be the link to my format #).

I'm about ready to chunck the whole thing! Good riddance!

I appreciate all of your help!!!! Thank you!!

Try a search in the BU folder for any files with the .SCR extension. Explore the CD ROM, open your search function, and type *.SCR in the box for files to find. See if anything comes up.

So, the command line directions in my previous post had no solution for you? What was the result from that effort?

If you have a DOS 5.0 on disk use it, once installed on HDD and setup, then --format C: then use your bootdisk---put in A: and start computer---not restart---always shut down on major installs
