My IE 6 isn't working after I deleted some spyware using Hijack This. Please help.

I recently was successful in getting rid of all spyware and popups on my home PC, so I went to work on my laptop and used Hijack This and AdAware SE to delete spyware from my laptop as well. The spyware is gone but I can't connect to the internet with my browser IE. I open IE and the window opens, but when I try to connect to the internet, I get a page that says server not found. I tried reinstalling IE 6.0, but get the same error message.

Please help. My laptop gets broadband internet access through a netgear card, and the connection is at 100% when I'm trying to connect. When I check the netgear card monitor, it's sending, but not receiving any data. Can you help me? Thanks.

Have you tried using system restore and roll back to when the laptop was connecting correctly to the internet?

Hi,

I actually mistyped. The OS on my laptop is windows 2000. My PC connects to the internet just fine and its OS is XP. I have 2 laptops and none of them can connect to the internet. Both get "cannot find server" message. On one of my laptops, when I start the computer, I also get an error message that my VPN client (what I use to access secure sites at work from home) "Windows sockets initialization failed". The wireless card gets 100% signal on both laptops. I checked to see if it was an issue with the wireless card, and connected both laptops directly to the cable modem, at 100mbps, but still get the same error message.

I tried to restore settings but still get the same message, "cannot find server". Then, I thought maybe it was because I installed Windows Update SP 2 on my PC and it was interfering with my network capabilities with the laptops, so I uninstalled SP2 and still cannot connect to the internet. I don't know what happened. I used to be able to connect to the internet before SP2 and before I deleted all the spyware files. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
