HELP! HP Printer driver & OS X
I downloaded a printer driver for an older HP Laserjet from HP's site, and installed it but when I go to the printer list to have it recognized it lists the Lazerjet 4p but says printer driver is not installed. I have an iMac running OS 10.2.8 It is an HP Laserjet 4p and I'm using a parallel to USB cable. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

You'll need the OSX drivers. Installing OS9 drivers aren't going to help.
It's found at the link below ------ http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...s&swEnvOID=219 Be certain you're using that driver. Then you'll need to go to the print center and add the printer. If you've done all that and that's where it's telling you there's no printer driver. Then it may be your parallel to usb adapter. You may try simply connecting to the printer via your ethernet connection. You may need to use a hub or disconnect your modem to test that your set up will work that way. I installed the very same printer using the driver I linked to above for a user with OS10.3.5 and it ran without a hitch, however, the printer was connected via ethernet.

Okay, that is exactly what I have done already, twice. I used your link and went straight to the HP download site I have already used so I tried it a third time..... Does that installer put the driver in the right place or am I supposed to go searching for it and put it somewhere????
Also if I do decide to use an ethernet connection what box do I check in the printer selection box, AppleTalk, IP Printing, Rendezvous??? I don't see an Ethernet check box. There is an HP Laserjet Utility in a folder on my hardrive but whenever I try to use it it opens up Classic first and then a little ball just sits there spinning forever and thats it. GRRRRR, Macs are supposed to be EASY! Sorry you are talking to a real novice here..... thanks again. |
