View Full Version : LCD Monitor Problem...

My ThinkPad 570e has been acting weird. The LCD monitor, specifically. Any dark colors trigger a fuzziness in the display. For example, this message board is mostly bright, so I'm not getting much of a reaction. However, at the bottom left, there is a collection of black pixels in the windows logo of the start button. Random pixels near the black pixels are displaying seeming random colors, mostly white but also some other light colors. When I open windows media player, which is black everywhere, the pixels become lines of miscolored areas, and entire sections become white. This has happened for some time, but recently, the entire monitor has been becoming completely white (no flashing pixels, etc) and stayed white. It has happened during the bootup process when most of the monitor is naturally black. Right now, I am lucky that it did not happen and I got this far. I've tried other resolutions and color qualities, but nothing helps. I don't believe it is a fault of the graphics card because I can use an alternate monitor output and such problems do not occur. Before I blame the monitor itself and throw this old laptop out, does anyone have any suggestions? Also, if unfixable, would it be worth the money to fix just the monitor of a laptop? Or should I save the money for a new one?

Thankyou

Hi pyrexyn

Welcome to CTH

I think you have a faulty display, if it's old it might be best to save the money for a new machine. The only time I tried to get one of these fixed it would have cost as much as a new machine to replace the display, and I would have still had an old machine. Ask for a quote from a repair shop. Good luck. BF

If you'd like to price a new screen, take a look at http://www.screentekinc.com/ . Give 'em a call and ask pricing + shipping charges, see if it's worthwhile trying to repair your laptop.
