imac dvd install help!!
Just installed a Panasonic dvd rom drive SR-8185-B, in like a breeze....Upon restart, no correct drivers are present. I looked in Hardware, it's listed correctly, I looked in extentions, only shows the older Apple Memorex CDROM driver.

What to do? I have upgraded this to 10.3.3 with discs, and then to 10.3.5 with download. Otherwise everything is hunky-dory, but no DVD function. Where (and how) can I install correct driver (to/from)????? I don't have a clue.

Imac indigo slot load 400 G3

Help help, the kids wanna watch movie! http://cybertechhelp.com/forums/images/smilies/dizzy.gif

uh-oh...might be worse, CD's won't run either! I'm sure i set as slave, and connected everything tight, I'll double check, report back...

Nope, everything is correct and tight. Is this just a case of needing new drivers? Where are they? How to install? :dizzy: I haven't a clue

ooo not good Ed. If OSX doesn't support the drive natively you may not find drivers for it. You'll have to check the Panasonic web site and cross your fingers they have an Mac OSX driver. Apple builds in drivers for all compatible devices. It's usually only when drivers are upgraded they need to be installed. And not all PC hardware will work in a Machintosh. Parts aren't always interchangeable between platforms. Does the spec sheet for the SR-8185-B state it supports a Macintosh system?

HHello Buzz: Yes this is made for imac and cube (internal slot load, nowhere else). It would seem to be able to start right up on reboot; It does nothing but spit out CD's and DVD's in 9.2.2 and in 10.3.5....It seems to be functional, just not working! It was listed as G3 and G4 compatible too. It's only a rom drive, so I didn't forsee much trouble.

I have just installed the latest 9.2.2 updates, and there is a new Q-time for 10.3.5 not yet installed but that shouldn't affect this (i don't think!)

Is it possible that the IDE adapter and cable aren't appropriate? They fit perfectly

Note: It doesn't say panasonic on it, that's how it was described by seller, it says Matsu****a or Mitsubushi ( I think they're all the same factory anyway) but definitely made for imacs and cubes.

It shipped brand new, OEM sealed and well packed

Hmm then it's either a bad drive or the compatibility listing was wrong. I'm assuming by your post you know how to hook it up correctly, I mean, it certainly sounds like you do. At this point, honestly I'd contact the seller. There shouldn't need to be a driver, especially for OSX.

I just looked in 9.2.2 extensions, it is now showing correct (I think) CD DVD drivers. Still spits out discs, still not showing up on desktop. I'll try reset again, see what happens.

I look around and found only updates for 9.1.x Firmware pkg is complete 4.1.9...this mqakes no sense

I think I figured it out: Ihave done a search and found no mention of SR-8185-B EXCEPT for downloads pages showing it to be used in various Packard Bell laptops!! Imac/Cube uses the EXACT SAME DRIVE BODY, except it's model is SR-8185-C ! It would have been built with a different controller, to answer to mac os instead of various DOS versions.

It seems it was listed wrong, and they've now sold about a dozen of them! This is not an imac drive, and I doubt it can be adapted, even though it fits in there perfectly!

Anybody wanna swap a brand new B for a C?
