hi dan
i noticed a quote under your relpy ... "thou shall no pm for help".
have i broken a forum rule?
i don't wish to cause trouble. i was under the impression the forum's purpose was to obtain advice and help?
can ya set me straight
I received the above pm today and wanted to explain in public why most active members ask not to be pm for help.
You are right, this forums main purpose is to obtain advise and help to all. Any answer provided goes into the archives and will help others who may have the same problem in the future. Private messages are just that, private and they cannot be used by others who may have the same problem.
Asking for private help goes against the objectives of this forum. There is not one active member here who has all the answers and sometimes it takes a combination of additional questions and answers from others to help solve the problem.
Asking for private help could also cause a delay in getting help. Nobody lives in this forum and by going private you have to wait until that person gets on line, which may be today or it may be tomorrow. In the meantime you have a problem you are wanting to solve and there is a person currently on the board who could help, if they only knew.
The following is my opinion and not the opinion of any other active members - asking for private help is being selfish, you feel your problem is more important than others - you are saying: stop whatever you are doing, quit helping others and help me NOW. So whenever I get a private message asking for help, I will ignore it.
