CAN ANYBODY HELP ME
I have an 18 month old Inspiron 4150 that is now out of warranty.
2 months ago I tried to switch it on, it made a high pitched whine and shut itself down. I have tried repeatedly to switch it on but the same thing occurs. However, it will not even power up momentarily now.
I have spoken to Dell technical support but they do not know what is wrong with it.
I have been told by an engineer that it is most likely to be the mother board, but he can't be sure.
If it is the MB then it will cost 800 pounds to fix it - I can buy a new laptop for less!
I have checked all the external cabling - power is going into the machine, the battery has 93% power, so it's not that.
Memory chips, hard drive, all seem to be operational.
Has anyboby out there had this problem with a laptop? Is it the internal power module? Is it the MB?
Does anyone have an wiring diagram for this model so I can take a look inside and test the circuits?

Thanks in advance
Joolz

it is extremely difficult to pinpoint problems with laptops since they use speciality parts because of space limitation. I would lean towards a bad harddrive.

Is the laptop hot to touch when it shutdown? Are you able to get into bios?
