:p First of all you'll need 7 blank formatted (preferably brand new) floppy disks.
You'll need to download this XP Home Boot Disk Setup file:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e8fe6868-6e4f-471c-b455-bd5afee126d8&DisplayLang=en
Run it, then follow the on-screen instructions as they appear. You'll be asked to insert 1 disk at a time until 6 are done. Don't forget to label them! ;)
Then download this file from my personal site:
http://www.angelfire.com/musicals/tonez (http://www.angelfire.com/musicals/tonez)/disksetup.zip
(This program wasn't created by me, it's from PC Help Live, but their boot disks are no longer free like this copy was once.)
Extract the "disksetup.exe" file. (You'll need a zip program to extract it if you don't have one, www.winzip.com (http://www.winzip.com/) is the most common.)
Run the file & insert the last blank disk. Label it "EZ Install".
Now make sure you don't forget to put all your important files on disks or CDs, because once you format theres no going back! :erm:
Restart & go into your BIOS. (Usually by pressing the "delete" key as your computer turns on).
In your BIOS menu, find your device boot order, & change it (if it already isn't set this way) so that the first boot device is the Floppy Drive, second is HDD or IDE-0, and third to CD-ROM.
Save the settings & exit the BIOS with the "EZ Install" disk in A: drive.
When the "EZ Install" Disk's menu appears, select "Utilities & Other"
Once in there, select "Format Drive C:"
You'll be asked to confirm, press y & enter to continue.
Once it's finished, enter a drive label if you want, or press enter for no label.
Take out the "EZ Install" & put in "Disk 1" of the XP Home Boot Disks you created earlier. Open your CD drive & put in your XP Home CD too.
Restart your computer & follow the instructions, loading each disk until the XP Setup begins!
As for setting it up for the internet, Windows XP will automatically do everything for you.
You may find some problems with some hardware once the installation is complete, you might need newer XP drivers for things like your modem, sound card & display adapter.
It depends on wheather the drivers are common & standard on the XP CD or not..
If you do need some drivers, I suggest you try www.driverguide.com (http://www.driverguide.com) on a friends PC, & download the drivers you need.

- E.kIf you want to reformat it just insert your 98 or 98se floppy and select start computer without disk. Once you get the the command prompt type in: "Format C:" without the quotes. press y to continue. Then you can do your 6 disk xp home install thingy. Best do what he says though cause this might not work on your computer.

If you have never formatted your harddrive before. I would also recommend obtaining all the hardware drivers for your system that you can prior to erasing anything on your computer. Utilities such as dxdiag and System Info can help you to determine what hardware is in your computer. If your CD Rom is not bootable and you have to use the floppy drive install program to load XP from the CD then likely you have a older system and will need to know much about your existing hardware. I have included the minimum requirements for basic functionality. Actual requirements vary, depending on the system configuration and the programs and features that you choose to install.
The minimum hardware requirements for Windows XP Home Edition are:
•Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300 MHz is recommended)
•At least 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM (128 MB is recommended)
•At least 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available space on the hard disk
•CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
•Keyboard and a Microsoft Mouse or some other compatible pointing device
•Video adapter and monitor with Super VGA (800 x 600)or higher resolution
•Sound card
•Speakers or headphones
For more information about system requirements for Windows XP Home Edition, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/evaluation/sysreqs.mspx (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/evaluation/sysreqs.mspx)
The minimum hardware requirements for Windows XP Professional include:
•Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300 MHz is recommended)
•At least 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM (128 MB is recommended)
•At least 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available space on the hard disk
•CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
•Keyboard and a Microsoft Mouse or some other compatible pointing device
•Video adapter and monitor with Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher resolution
•Sound card
•Speakers or headphonesFor more information about system requirements for
Windows XP Professional, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/evaluation/sysreqs.asp (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/evaluation/sysreqs.asp)
The XP CD has a system compatability wizard on it that can also help you deteremine any issues with your existing hardware you may encounter.
Your Question:
"right now i have 2 drives, 1 drive it started with and the other 1 i went to a shop and they added for me, if i format, will they be gone? like do i have to bring it to their shop again?"
Answer to your question:
You don't have to take the drive to the shop. If you in fact have two drives or at least two partitions in one drive, it makes new installs even easier. If you have files on the system drive you would like to save you can copy them to the secondary drive. Then your free to format the primary drive for reinstall.

One more thing, the minimum ram for XP is 64 MB, the recommended is 128 MB. However, from personal experience on all make and models 256 MB is a must. Unless of course you are very patient.

After going into your BIOS, changing your boot sequence to: Floppy 1st, HDD or IDE-0 2nd & CD-ROM 3rd, save & exit BIOS with the EZ Install Disk in your floppy drive.. The EZ Install Disk must be in as the PC boots for the menu to load.
It should load automatically. Then choose "Utilities & Other", then "Format Drive C:".
Press y then enter to begin the format.
Follow my first post instructions above ^ after the format is complete! :D
But like Smoothie said, you should get all your drivers before the format.. Unless you have another PC to do so on.

STOP - before you do anything, you better go to pcpitstop.com and run their xp readiness test. There is always a possibility that your computer or the software you have cannot handle winxp.

Oh yeah one more thing.
You can get a bootable CD-Rom drive for like 6 bucks at Wal-Mart and save youself a lot of hassle. Then all you have to do is set it as a boot device on your bios and reboot with the cd in the drive.
