HELP!!! I inherited an old computer that was I trying to install windows 98 onto. I followed all the directions I took off of the Microsoft website to install the progam and everything seemed to go great. I received all the right prompts and everything the directions said was supposed to happen, happened. When I restarted the computer like the directions said, all I get is a black screen with no prompts. I tried rebooting the disks and nothing but a black screen. Any suggestions?? I would greatly appreciate any help!!!
Thanks!!

tell about the old computer, cpu, ram, harddrive size. What os was previously on it? Did the clock have the correct time before you started installing?

Thanks for the quick reply. Like I said, I inherited this from a moving neighbor. I am not entirely sure of all the information. I know it had no operating system but it did have microsoft office and it did have the correct time. When I was installing windows, it said that it had more than 512mb. I don't have much more information than that for you. I am sorry. I hope this is helpful at least a little bit.

512mb would be ram, but why would and old computer have that much ram? My 98se has 128mb. So can you try reformating it? Will it let you get to the command prompt?

I don't think it is that old. I cannot get to any prompt at all. When I turn it on I just get a black screen.

It does light up when I first put it on. When I put a cd in, the cd light will light up and the cd will spin. After that, nothing happens:upset: !!
