I am trying to install win98se on a newly reformatted hard drive. I followed the MS knowledgebase instructions for partitioning and reformatting the drive, and that seems to have gone OK. I have a couple of win98 bootable diskettes, one from the win98CD and a couple that I downloaded. When I insert any of them to begin the install, it says the OS is loading, but it concludes with a blinking cursor without a drive letter ..ie, no prompt. The machine is basically frozen with a blinking cursor. So, I can't get to the CD drive to begin the setup. Any suggestions?

Hi and welcome to cybertech.

I'm not sure about Microsofts ways of doing things, but take a look at this page. The Ramblings of Theoran (http://theoran.millenniumhosting.net/tutorials.html) Follow his Tutorials on how to Delete, create, and format Partitions. Just to make sure you have a good bootup disk go to www.bootdisk.com and download a Windows/98se bootdisk. (just to be on the safe side)
