I just typed a message for a half hour and hit preview only to have it show an error page :disgust:
Anyway, once more, I am a newb... I just signed up a few minutes ago - or closer to an hour now because I am having difficulty with my 98 machine.
Its a Itronix 6025 notebook with a 233Mhz, 64Mb, 4GB and 16 bit PCMCIA.
I am using a generic looking Network card with dongle that says "FOR ETHERNET" then "Noteworthy" on the back it says Toshiba America Information Systems and has a number - NWTR01x
:fyi:
Dont know how much that may help
I am using the following in my network:
Client for Microsoft Networks
Dial Up Adapter
IBM Ethernet Credit Card Adapter II (Auto detected and installed)
TCP/IP -> IBM Ethernet Credit Card Adapter II (Same Deal)
File & Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
I upgraded this from 95 to 98. 98 was stable and I never had problems until I swapped out drives from a 8Gig to a 4Gig. I couldn't find my 98 so I had to install 98SE. That was rather difficult since I have no USB or CD/Disk Drives... but I do have a 260MB Viper Drive (PCMCIA Hard Drive) that I use to load my data.
My Problem:
After the very first boot where I configured my network and rebooted, I went to microsoft's update page to install SP1. It downloaded my IE6Setup.exe and so I ran it. That is just a downloader pretty much so once the actual 44-77mb download started, I only got to 5,xxx kb and it froze up. The whole machine just froze and wouldnt respond so I had to reboot it. I did the same steps but after the downloader (recovered previous install atempt) it still froze at 5,xxxkb download. Same if I redirect somewhere on a site like logging into a forum, it will freeze.
Also on my network, when I select another machine... once I try and access a file, it will freeze. I think I've successfully downloaded a photo from another machine before but I might be mistaken. I recently tried installing a shared printer from my network (7 machines of various O/S's and 1 redhat V7. server), it saw the printer and ran the setup wizard but during the driver file install (where it pulls the driver from the destination machine) it froze again.
This is really getting on my nerves and I can't find my 98 (think it was stolen).
Does anyone know of a sollution? Is it my netboui or TCP/IP settings?
The machine never has any other problems except when downloading large amounts of data from other machines either ethernet or internet.
I remember something of this a few years ago but cannot remember nor find it in google searches. I am hoping someone knows this problem from experience and it will all be over, so if you guys need any more info - feel free to ask.
Thanks,
