Bought Excel 2000 upgrade version maybe 1.5 yrs ago. Installed fine, because it found a previously installed ver of Lotus 1-2-3.
Just bought new computer with Win XP. Now my Excel 2000 won't install because it is not finding a previous spreadsheet program on the system already.
When I bought Excel 2000, paid $100+ for it at Best Buy. Registered it with MS. Just called their tech support on my dime and they just want to sell me another copy of Excel.
Please help. How can I install this program I bought legitimately originally and now can't use because I just made Uncle Bill even richer? If you need the Product Key or original Product ID# I can provide that. Just ask.

Is there anything I can do? I don't have any other spreadsheet programs to install first so that Excel will find one. Does anybody know where I can obtain one just for the purpose of installing my copy of Excel 2000?
Many thanks for responding, whether good or bad. Greg

Sorry Greg but we are not going to give you a hack to bypass the requirements of the upgrade licence you have purchased.

Where did you get the Lotus 1-2-3 that was on the other PC?
I can't remember what the XL2000 upgrade requires but you may be able to find soemthing at E-Bay to qualify.

Thanks for response. The 1-2-3 that was on the other (old) computer was loaded on by the mfr (IBM), kind of OEM style.

Pretty sure this Excel upgrade ver is looking for some kind of registry entry that indicates previous install of spreadsheet software.

I'll check out eBay.

Good on you, I think Excel (office) 95 qualifies if you can find that cheap enough.
