I recently bought a G3 333mhz iMac that was made in 1998. It is the grape, trayload version of the iMac. I installed OS X 10.2 onto it over OS 8.6. The computer worked perfectly until I restarted it. When I restarted it it came up with the command conslole thing and said that the word, bootr was not right. I typed in mac-boot and it boots up OS X like that. Once running OS X the computer works like a charm without a problem. The problem isnt really absolutely vital but it is annoying, so I was wondering if anyone knows any way to have the computer boot straight into mac-boot so I don't have to type it in. Is it worth it?

Thanks,
Stuart

Sorry to be vague ; it a long time since I worked on any apple ; but if I remember from my days in the 80.....'s their is a boot.ini or simular file which is called very simular to windows boot.ini ; this may be hidden so you will need to search the H/D

That the best I can come up with..hey i'm getting old.

There is no boot.ini file hidden or otherwise. Hasn't been for several decades. So that can't be the issue anymore. Ibeleive the first generation of Apple ][ and Apple ][e computers had the boot.ini. But since Apple built the first SE model (which replaced the ][ models) there's been no such file.

Stuart, The problem may be that you've got OS8.6 installed. If you must have a classic OS version installed, Boot the computer into OS8.6 and upgrade that to 9.2.2. If you do not need the classic OS installed simply remove your 8.6 system folder. Then, while booted into OSX go to your System Preferences > Startup Disk and choose the OSX system to boot from

yeah thats what i thought too but i dont have os 8.6 on it anymore-i did a complete format of the hard drive and erased everything on it before putting os x on it. i am pretty sure that it is just a simple BIOS problem like a word that is used to boot the os. you see, when i turn it on, it comes up and says that bootr is the incorrect word, but i can type mac-boot in and it works perfectly. is there any way to change it from bootr to mac-boot in the BIOS somehow? i would appreciate any help. thanks, stuart
