I'm not sure if anyone is familiar with PowerDVD 4.0, but I need some help. Whenever I try to play the movie Pearl Harbor, I get an error message saying:

Error code: 80A52C00
An unexpected DVD-Rom error has occurred.

I checked the Cyberlink (the company that makes the program) website, and under a FAQ it said I should update my dvd-rom firmware. Since I have a Creative 2x dvd-rom drive, I checked the Creative website for an update. However, they had no updates on their site. The funny thing is that all my other dvds work fine with PowerDVD. In fact, the 2nd disc of Pearl Harbor works with it. The only disc giving me problems is the first disc. I tried it in WinDVD, another dvd program, and it worked. I would use Windvd, but i like powerdvd much better. How can I get Pearl Harbor to work in PowerDVD? I have a 350 P2, 128 mb ram, using Win98. Again, this only happens with Disc 1 of Pearl Harbor.

I hope someone is familiar with this program and can help me. Thanks.

should update my dvd-rom firmware sounds like a cop-out to me.

Q: What does error message 80A52C00 mean?
A: This means that the software is unable to accurately read from the disc. Try carefully cleaning the disc surface with a soft, dry cloth or try a different disc

Otherwise, the following page has links to DVD firmware updates that may assist... http://perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/firmware/dvd/dvdfi.htm

I like PowerDVD v4 but like it's predecessor
v3 it is a little buggy.

There are two things I do as-a-rule when spinning movies with PowerDVD.
One, I never install the popup install request for PC Friendly. This install
seems to make PowerDVD more unstable.
Two, I boot PowerDVD first, then use it's cd door open button to open,
then insert the DVD. If it crashes(PowerDVD) then you must remove the
DVD, do a cold start, then do the same steps all over again.

v3 and v4 are just plain buggy. They won't admit it at Cyberlink. For $70.00
USD it's a pretty affordable piece of software. Maybe v4.x or v5 might come
alone soon and deal with the bugs.

Thanks for your replies.

I tried cleaning the disc, same problem. I also tried your tips Spider, but still no go. I've decided not to update the drive firmware, since it could damage my drive. I guess I'll admit defeat and just use WinDVD to play it. Or maybe I can get an answer from Cyberlink, if and when they decide to respond to my email.

Again, thanks for the suggestions.
