i download adobe reader 6.0 and unistalled my older version i believe it was 5. something, anyway, my problem is downloading product manuals from websites. when i click on the link for the manual a new window opens that is blank except for a red x in a box in the upper left hand corner. the addresses all end in pdf. i have had this problem on 3 different sites. i have no problems opening pdf attachments sent with e-mail. anyone have any ideas on what i might try to resolve this? i have a toshiba laptop running xp sp2 with 700 mb ram & celeron cpu 2.8 ghz.

It sounds like the browser plug in for Acrobat Reader is not working. Have you tried right-clicking on the links and selecting 'Save As', then saving the file and opening it using Acrobat Reader?

I never could get version 6 of Acrobat Reader to work right on either Win XP or Win98SE no matter how I configured it. Plenty of people have reported having the same problems with v.6. Others have reported that, whileit works, it's painfully slow.
I finally admitted defeat, uninstalled v. 6 and reinstalled v. 5.0. You can download it, as well as older versions of quite a few programs from Old Version (http://www.oldversion.com).
