Welcome to CTH thelox. It sounds as though you have some corrupted files. The fix here (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324767) resolves the problem however we have found that it appears to be caused by spyware.

If you would like your PC checked for spyware too, go here (http://www.cybertechhelp.com/download.php?hijackthis1977.zip) and download the latest version of Hijack This to a new folder on your drive, unzip it and click on scan. Most of the files listed will be harmless and/or required so do not make any changes, just click on Save Log, copy it and post it back in this thread.

the first stage of the fix did not work, so i went on to create the autoexec.nt file and the config.nt file, and put the autoexec file into system32 file and done the same with config.nt but i have not yet done the command .com file, as i do not have the xp disk any more, is there a way of creating the command.com file or obtaining it without the xp disk or dos floppy?

Hi thelox, I am in a different timezone. Do you have an i386 folder on your drive? If so, you can extract a copy from there.

Hi thelox. I have merged all 3 of your threads as we are getting some information in some posts, some in the other and none of us are working with the full story.

Can you please advise what music software (and version) you are trying to use.
Frankly it sounds like it is not supported in an NT based O/S (windows XP). While it's possible to try to fool XP to try to make it work, it doesn't always do so.

Please read the following:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314106
This means that Windows does not support 16-bit programs that require unrestricted access to hardware. If your program requires this, your program will not work in Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP.
