Unhappy sims 2 help PLZZZZZZZZZ

I have just recently bought the sims two and couldnt wait to play, but the first thing I tried to do was create a family, I made my first sim and clickd the accept button, the cursor kept changing to a timer(as it does) and then it went normal after about 5 minutes and stayed on the same screen, I left it for about 20 minutes and it still didnt do anything, I could still move my mouse and the music was there and everything but i couldnt click anything. So I thought I'd try just going on the game with someone already in a house, so I sstarted playing and after about a minute it froze and I had to restart my pc, it keeps doing this and I have tried 2 things which dont work, closing the background programs and changing the performance settings. It wont work, hlp plz!!!!!!!!

Have you checked to see if your system has the minimum requirements to play the game (especially memory)?
