I've been having problems installing OSX on a Imac 333MHZ machine. At the moment it is running on 8.6 It tells me there is a disk error with the cd everytime I try to install it.
I've tried booting from the cd by holding down the C key and also selecting the start up disk as the OSX cd in the control panel but neither works, as it just ends up booting in 8.6.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated....

Hi Mrmax,
IMHO you might find OSX very slow and lumbering on that Mac and if you don't have sufficient memory then I wouldn't bother.
But if you want to try it anyway, I suggest you get an external firewire/usb dvd/cd drive and try installing from that, or get a faster more up to date Mac, the eMac and iBook are an absolute bargain at the moment.
Sorry I can't say much more that might help, but I hope it helps to make a descision.
Jim.

Sounds to me like you've got a bad CD or your using an install CD that shipped from Apple with a different Mac model and not a retail OSX CD.
Big Jim's comments are also very warranted. Although OSX should run on that iMac depending upon how much RAM you've got, it's going to be slow.

You need to upgrade your firmware first. You can find it HERE (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117)
