Hi mlpbus4
Welcome to CTH
I guess what you are saying is that you have used your scanner to convert a paper document into an adobe .pdf document, that you wish to edit but can't. Have I got that right?
You need the adobe acrobat writer program which costs money, as opposed to the adobe acrobat reader which is free, to do this. Even then you may have problems with the edit as some times this process just takes an image, ie picture, of the document and places it into the .pdf document
What you really need to be doing is using your scanner and some OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software to scan your paper document into an editing program like MSword or Wordpad.
Most scanners come with at least a cutdown OCR program, but many purchasers fail to install it and use the scanner to scan photographs only.
Did you get a software disk with your scanner? What programs does it have? What brand of scanner? BF

Scanning OCR Software
if you have Office XP, it comes with it's own ocr program.
What programs allow you to scan in a form and then add text, such as an application form?
Here's what I do using Win98SE and Word 2000, I scan the form and save it to MSWord. Using the TEXT BOX feature you can type in the information required, then remove the background fill and the line around the box. Now move the text like you would an image into position on your form.

{Simple optical character recognition} If you've got a printed
document that you need to e-mail to someone, or if you just want
to have it on your PC, you can't beat a scanner for... scanning
it. However, you can't really edit said document unless you have
something to get it from the real world into the electronic one.
Here sits an OCR app that'll turn your scanned documents into
editable text. Merci! It works in both English and French. If your
scanner has a TWAIN interface (and most modern ones do), you can
use this program. It'll process any bi-level TIFF image file, as
well. Wocar, of the Hill People...

Convert scanned docs to text.
Not happy with the OCR software that came bundled with your scanner? Wocar is a nice freeware 32-bit alternative. It takes your scanned documents and transfers them into editable rich text. It works with both English or French languages. Once you've completed the scan, your document can be edited in the program's built-in WordPad-like editor. Options let you extract fonts and images, highlight possible errors, remove noise from the scanned document, and add words to both dictionaries.
