Does anyone know of a good free program that
would allow me to backup a 2.78mb .exe file, or larger
using multiple 1.44 floppy disk?

Found a shareware called Splitty 2.1 at, http://download.cnet.com/downloads/1,10150,0-10001-103-0-1-7,00.html?tag=srch&qt=Floppy+backups&cn=&ca=10001
that does what wanted .
Backed up my NetZero setup.exe using 4 floppy disks.
I reinstalled NetZero to make sure it worked.
Well worth the $10.00 license fee.

Another option would be to Span a ZIP file across the disks.
Create a New Zip file on a Floppy disk.
Add the File to the zip. WinZip should ask for another disk when the disk is full. It will do this until the file is zipped.

Thanks degsy
I didn't know WinZip would do that.
So, I was able to creat a two disk set from
a 1.54 mb .exe file, but I can't seem to recombine them.
WinZip recognizes that there are two disks.
If I open A: and click the WZ file on disk 1
WZ opens and says the disk in A: is the first of a spanned archive set,
insert the last disk of the spanned set and click OK.
I insert the last disk and click OK.
WZ Clasic opens with the .exe file listed under Name.
Thats where I'm stuck.
How do I merge the file on the first disk with the file
on the second disk?

to continue the process in Winzip, just click the extract button, then Winzip will tell you to insert disk #1. once that part of the file is extracted, it will ask you to inser disk #2 (the last disk). that's all there is to it.

Never could get it to work the WinZip way,but
Max Splitter or Splitty 2.1 should do the job
just fine.
Thanks Mr1drful & oracle128 :)

File splitter is the one I have used many times. Its free and you include the File Splitter on the first floppy that way you always have it when you want to Rejoin the split files. Works Great....
Glad you found one that worked for you gstone....
