This is a back up program that comes with Easy CD Creator. I used it last week to back up everything on my computer, it took three CD's. Now, after a reformat, I'm trying to get some of the programs that were backed up onto these CD's, I put in "CD.1" it the Take Two program opens, it prompts for me to put in the last CD of the back up, so I put in CD.3, it then "looks" at that, then asks to have CD.1 put back in, so I do that. This when opened, shows me C :, I double click on that, and can find the programs. I right click on the one I want, and hir "restore", but every time, it starts working, then freezes the computer!!! :(

When I backed up the computer, I had Windows 98 SE here, but since the reformat, I now have Windows ME, could that be the problem?

What is it that I'm doing wrong, is it me or the software, is there a better back up program out there, would doing it all manually, copying every program onto CD's myself, be any better?

TIA.

Dave.

In a word...

Yes.

Not sure how TakeTwo works but to restore an application requires Windows Registry to be reinstated. Different Windows = Different Registry.

I'll bet it works if you put 98se back.

Nope, as above, software requires registry work. Copying a folder where a program was installed will not reinstall the program.

To be honest Dave, my backups are only of files, not programs, when I reformat & reinstall Windows, I reinstall all programs as well. This ensures any problems that Windows was having that may have been caused by a program will not resurface after the "restore".

Thanks Smurfy, I have no wish to go back to 98 SE, this ME seems to be pretty stable so far, guess I'll have to erase them CD's and re-do a back up!! :) :) :)

The software is designed to restore the OS to how it was.

Since you have ME, it's never going to be how it was.

Oh okay, I was really just hoping to get programs back, that I had backed up, things like instant messengers, clean up programs, my address book...
