Until today when my daughter came home from school, I didn`t know half the progs installed on the computer. She then asked where microsoft excel was, as she needs to do pye charts. Apparently it`s not there or I`m looking in the wrong place. I thought I was buying a multimedia p.c or does that prog not normally come with it. Microsoft word is there but I can`t seem to find excel.

that program comes with microsoft office or works its a differant progam then windows, if you need them for daughters school work then i would suggest works, a much smaller program then office.
and if you have words more than likely you have one or the other there and excel wasnt installed, run the setup disk and install it

Hey,

Excel normally comes with the M$Office cd. I don't think down here it comes with Works.

Works is a terrible cd man !! Everything on there is a cut down version of what it's supposed to be.

I can't help but think that PC companies only include it with their PC packages to fill them out a bit.

Seems like nowadays it's very hard to buy a PC that doesn't come with it.

The Small Business Edition of Office is a good cheap alternative to the Full Office version which is pretty expensive.

But you don't get M$Access http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/frown.gif

As stated, Excel is part of Office Suite and Works spreadsheet absolutely blows!

If you don't want to fork out your hard earned $$ for MS Office, you could look at a freeware office suite that is Office compatible.
Star Office is supposed to be good - (sorry - don't have a link at work) but it is close to 100MB download.
Or try 602Pro PC Suite (http://www.software602.com/products/pcs/index.html) at only 14MB it's supposed to be OK and is compatible with MS office 2000.
At the worst, they are going to be better than Works and could be as good as MS Office.

Ironside - I doubt they have Office - many new retail systems (especially here and from what I've seen on the 'net in the UK as well) will come with software packages including MS Word2000, Works, etc etc so it is quite common to see a PC with Word2000 but no other Office products.
I probably shouldn't have rubbished Works spreadsheeting so much, that's where I started after all, but using a full-blown Office spreadsheeting app (like Excel) is just far better.

thanks for all your replies and suggestions but my daughter found what she was looking for in works, although not exactly the same as excel which she is using at school. All she wanted to do was produce graphs and 3d pye charts and she found something similar in works. thanks .btw I went into a branch of dixons today and microsoft office with everything on it was priced at £280. Now that seems to be a rip off http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif
