I`m getting the "page can`t be displayed" error.
steve, I use a program called "cleanup" but I don`t delete the cookies with that cause it seems to delete all of them with that. so I ddlete the ones I don`t want one by one by right clicking internet exporer/properties/settings

sorry, I posted this reply befere I`d finished. What I don`t understand is you say it`s good housekeeping to empty the cache and you also say it`s because it`s empty that the pages won`t or take longer to load. or am I getting mixed up, are the temp internet files the same as the cache?

once a week i really empty my tif,s out with
iecache 2 ,which takes everything including the index.dat ,but through the week i just empty it manually as that only takes the surface out,and doesnt touch the cookie or index.dat ,s .thats what i meant there,s cleaning and there,s cleaning when the index/cookie files get cleaned you have no pages at all cached,no passwords etc,so if you were cleaning them really thourghouly then that would be a possible excuse for the problem your having,i hope this makes sense
steve.
also do you empty your history folder as well

thanks steve, it makes sense what you`re saying. History folder gets emptied same time as tif. problem seems to be on this page tonight, it`s taken about 3-4 minutes for this reply box to load .Through experimenting on different web pages it seems to be only bb`s that take ages

Fitzy, take a look at the post I just made in arcees question.
Yes, emptying your cache (TIF) will slow down your browsing.
Make sure you set IE to check for new versions every visit and delete them once every few days unless you are on a very slow dial-up (less than 33.6).

ok, seem to have got to the bottom of this. out of curiosty I used my backup isp and all the pages loaded at normal speed, but when I went back to my main isp the pages took ages. funny thing is, the speed of the one that`s taking ages is the same as the other one, connection speed I mean

the isp which is taking ages to load pages is "libertysurf" which I think is part of breathe, btw it`s also ysing a 0800 number. the one that appears to be normal is ic24 which I pay for by the minute.
also, it only seems to be on this bb now, I`ve been to a few tonight and they load straightaway. can`t understand it. I don`t suppose there are any special settings I should have for this bb is there

http://support.microsoft.com/support/ie/ie5/topics/browse/iebrowseemts.asp there is a ton of info, grab your reading glasses. When I have problems loading a page the first thing I do is a ping from DOS and that narrows the scope of the problem. I will say that 99 times out of a hundred there is a slow hop along the way.
I am on a dial up and delete my files daily (sometimes twice even). I have the cache set for 2 MB. I have found that when I had a large cache (100MB+) that the browser slowed way down.
