how about NOT SO MANY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS!!!
sorry, lol.
no one should ever have to bump a thread back to the page 1 or repost a question just because no one replied.

why don't you reply to them then?

everyone who can help is helping as much as possible, where are your replies to the unanswered questions? If you are so concerned, maybe you can help a little more. Or could it be you don't have all the answers either.
Sorry if the above is a little sharp but nobody has all the answers and nobody lives here - even though there are those who do spend alot of time here. Sometimes questions get missed because there are hundreds asked daily. The bumping is necessary to remind those who can help that there's the one thats been missed.

hypnotizeminds comes up with a valid point, we don't have any system here to easily show all the unanswered questions.

we DO have a system, and i didnt mean to OFFEND anyone, as i apparently did. all im saying is that there are alot of unanswered questions and i answer all the ones that i can, as im sure all of you do as well so quit taking it personal. were not 12 guys, quit acting like it. all im saying is that theres alot of them and it would be nice if there was some way to do something about it.
this is a suggestion board and i didnt suggest that everyone get smarter or quit ignoring people. i never said anything of the sort. all i said was that i SUGGEST something be done IF POSSIBLE to reduce the number of unnanswered posts. that is all so quit taking the stab at me cuz i never stabbed at any one of you. it was just a suggestion, learn to take constructive criticism... wow.

I think we are all doing our best hypnotizeminds and like you, I hate to see unanswered topics. We are experiencing phenomenal growth in membership at the moment which is fabulous but demand is outstripping supply currently and unfortunately some posts are going to be overlooked.

I hate to see all the unanswered post also. This is a topic that has been brought up many times here and at other boards. The bad part is that with so many questions coming in and very few people to help answer, this is what we're going to have. We all do the best we can, and I hope people understand that. We all do this for free and can't donate all our time here.
Hypto, do you have any suggestions on what to do? We are very open to suggestions.

Actually this forum is quite good, a few questions unfortunatly fall through the cracks, but a persistant questioner will usually get an answer. By comparison take a look at this forum http://forums.serverwatch.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=2 BF.

Good point BF. Compared to the majority of the forums this one does quite well and works hard at helping members and making them feel welcome. (That's why I'm here)
The biggest problem I have is keeping track of which issues have been resolved and which ones are still active. Any suggestions in that area would be appreciated.

ok everyone, listen.
i realize that i didnt SAY word for word that my original post was only a suggestion and not a "DEMAND" as some of you have put it, however, thats all it was and i DEMAND it be taken that way so that there is less confusion. im in no position to tell anyone on this planet what to do and i would never try to do so. i dont always word things the best but know that i meant no disrespect to any of you here at cht or to the site itself. i realize everyone here is doing their best and i wouldnt ever say that it isnt good enough because it is a hell of alot better than i could probably ever do. (which is why i havent left - good advice is to be found here)
so please, no more posts about "were doing our best" and "its impossible to have ALL threads answered ALL the time, we dont live here..." etc. I KNOW.
I just figured a suggestion board could be filled with suggestions that may be out of this world impossible, but just something to think about. hell, i could say "i think this board should be composed of 100% flash animation and everything be designed in full graphic animation at a 1600x1200 resolution". now obviously thats not going to happen but the most i expect to get back from it is "ha.. yeah right buddy, keep dreaming."
does ANYBODY get my point? im not trying to have problems with any of you, so please understand the tone of my original post as THIS post shall be used to clarify. im not going to edit my first post though so that everyone can see where i went wrong in my explanation. i am sorry for the confusion. :dizzy: :dizzy: :dizzy:

Here's a suggestion:
I've seen this on another forum, but I have no idea if it is possible on this one or what it would take to implement it if it is possible, but anyway...
On that forum when a new thread was started both the person who started the thread and administrators would have the option to "resolve" a thread. Once resolved the thread gets a new tag, for example a gold X. The thread is then closed and no further posts can be made in that thread. There was also a search function to look for resolved/unresolved threads and then a keyword search to look for specific threads in either category.

we have the option to show only unanswered threads but the "resolved" tag is a great idea. i would say that if its resolved and closed by a mod, only the person who started the thread would have the option to reopen it if he or she was still confused or had another question at a later date. other than that, great idea!! i love it, and itd be nice to see happen here. thanks for your input, Baser-X. its greatly appreciated.
good to see someone can make a suggestion instead of get offended by me. if anyone else has any suggestions thatd be great. id love to hear. otherwise, please close the thread for me.

Good idea Baser-X I have seen what you refer too but IMHO it would cause a lot more work for the Mods who already spend a lot of their free time here.

The main problem with that suggestion is that MOST threads that are resolved we dont know about. Alot of people get their answers and move on without saying if it helped or not. There is no way of telling. That is a problem I've seen at these boards since I joined my first one in Feb 2000. Alot of these threads are still open to ideas, but the orginal poster has already gotten the problem fixed. But, they don't come back and say what fixed it. So there would only be a few Solved marked post compared to all the open ones. Kinda looks bad if we only have 10 post marked as solved and 1000 still open. Yes, the members here and members that come here that have been at boards like this one would understand. But, for someone looking for a good board to join may look at that and figure this place is a waist.
BTW, this is a problem that has been discussed many many times here and at other boards I'm at or have been at. Just one of those unanswered questions.(What can we do?)
Good Idea though. Keep them coming.

Your welcome. I understand your original post. It can be taken out of context easily though. Something about your original question. It is a problem, thats why it is so important to get members helping out. We are fortunate that we are getting more and more members helping all the time. I'm very glad to see that. It really helps and is really really appreciated also.
