Hello all, site looks great!!

I have a problem...

I have the newest MSIE 5.5 Beta (4308-2900)

I also have MSIE 4 SP2 running in compatibility mode.

My OS is Win 98 4.10.1999

I have tried several times, in several ways, to have the Update Site install the newest Critical Update. The files download but the *Failed to Install* error message always appears. http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/confused.gif

Carol,

Your best chance at getting IE5.01 would be too buy a PC magazine with a CD on the front. I don't know about where you're living but down here in NZ we still get IE5.01 free on our cds

Tramtwo,

I'm going to find you a link to where you can download the update installer itself to install yourself http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hey tramtwo,

You're a familiar NoWonder face http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif

This could be a problem caused by either your not having the latest version of Virtual Machine, or your ActiveX control option is not enabled in your browser.

Then again, most often this is caused by Microsofts site being a pain in the *** http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Here's a list of FAQ related to this problem ::::

Click Here (http://support.microsoft.com/support/windows/update/faq/default.asp?PR=WUPD&T1=7d&FR=0&A=T&T=B&S=F&#installcom)

I'm using Win2000 so I see a different Windows Update to the old Win9.x one http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/frown.gif So I'm having trouble finding it.

From memory it's called advpack.exe I think.

I'll keep on looking for ya dude http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hey,

This is a very good link that should be able to help you ::::

If ya need anymore help please let me know,

But most of these problems like I said are down to either the Microsoft website being inundated with people/the site itself having problems, or peoples security settings in their browsers.

I'd start by resetting all your Security options back to their default values.

Thanks, I will try and let you guys know what happens. ePeople's UBB is still up they have been having problems with the win 98 forum. Andym said that they might need to trim it down a bit. I hope they archive the old threads and not repeat the ATNT snafu.

Thanks for all the links MiShY.

Still no joy! I have tried to use the corporate site, the updates are not up to date. http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/frown.gif I have also, for giggles and grins, tried the Internet Repair Tool (folly).
I tried to reset to default all settings.

I wonder if it is because of this beta browser. I guess I will file a report and do my part for the testing guyz at Microsoft. http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Edit: The update is also here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/download/default.htm but it just will not install on this PC, not mater what I try. http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/frown.gif
