Geesh...that was confusing...I quess I didn't realize I'd have to reregister here at your new boards. I was at a friends computer today and for some reason she can't go anywhere with her IE. All she gets is 'cannot find page/or server'. She's using IE 5.0 and I got the 128 encryption for her, but that still didn't help. She has a compaq and is using compuserve as her server. I had to type in the Windows Update page from there and tryed to download IE 5.5, but it wouldn't let it install. It said she wasn't connected to the internet. But dah...how else could we get that page if we weren't connected. She also gets alot of the same thing of not finding tbe page with her compuserve too. Would any of you happen to have any idea whats up? I'm clueless. I like your new boards, even if I did have to register again!

Thanks for the speedy response....I think my friend is out of town for the weekend..so I'm not sure when I'll get back over there. I didn't even think to check in the internet options. Or in the protocols, for that matter. I will as soon as I get back to her. Its a fairly new computer and she hasn't put any software on it yet. The error she gets is a dns error/can't find server. She's using compuserve as her server and I'm thinking that maybe they're something like AOL..do you suppose that means you can only use their browser? (whatever the heck that is)
But even using that browser I still got that same error quite a bit. And what about maybe using a free isp and see if that would make any difference?

Oh I almost forgot!! Hi ya Mishy...I've been sooooo lucky with this here computer and not had any problems I couldn't finally figure out how to fix. But I come here often and read all you guys posts..some pretty funny people ya got here! I enjoy it alot!

Hey Damhna...thanks for taking the time to help. I'm in that same old world as you...you couldn't pay me to use AOL or Compuserve. But this is a friends computer that is having this problem. And like I said, she tripped right out of town for the weekend. So I won't be able to check on the TCP/IP settings til she gets back. But as soon as she's back I'll try one of those free isp's (one I haven't had a bit a trouble with) and see if that helps. I'll get back with you as soon as I can. And thanks again for your help!

Hi Damhna...I finally got back to her computer this morning and I put one of those free isp's on and everything is fine. I got her an 800 number for her compuserve tech help and told her to call them with regards to her problem. I figured thats the best thing she should do, being none of us know anything about compuserve. I appreciate all the help from you tho...thank you very much.
