Internet Explorer6 won't load pages

Internet Explorer won't load pages, the message I get is the typical: The page cannot be displayed

The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings
I've tried running sfc /scannow to repair IE6, but that didn't work. I downloaded IE6setup.exe from Microsoft's web site, but it won't connect to the download servers, it says to check my internet connection. America Online is my ISP, but I only use it to connect as I use Mozilla Firefox to browse. Any suggestions on how to fix IE?

Nope, that isn't the problem.

Anything else I can check/do?

I was thinking of uninstalling IE, copying the Mozilla.exe, renaming it to IEXPLORE.exe and dropping it in the IE folder. Some games that I run use IE to load their websites, and since IE doesn't work their pages don't load. Think that could work? Trick the games into working?

Unhappy please PLEASE help!!!

I found this thread upon searching for a solution to the same frustrating problem that you are (were?) having. Just wondering if you ever found a solution? Some sites load fine, and others take forever to load, and then we end up getting the generic error. Sometimes the site will work initially, and then some parts of it won't. Sounds like the same problem as yours. PLEASE help me someone!!! I'm going nuts! I can't even log in on Ebay for instance, but Ebay itself works. weird.

I had similar problems and it turned out that I had a lot of viruses etc on board. I would suggest that you go here to download "Hijack This" and then post your log in the "Cyber Safety" forum.

I'm sure someone there will be able to check your log for viruses.
