OK here`s the scenario, If I start to download a large file, and then lose my connection. If I then think ah sod it, I don`t want he file anyway or i can`t be bothered to wait, what I want to know is, the part that i downloaded before I was cut off: is it in the computer and if so where isit?

hi fitzy
all you got to do to clean out a bad download is to defrag your hard drive, that will put all those little bits back together so they can be used again,in most cases its best to defrag about once a month.
but all a stoped download does is to put the info on your harddrive not really in a folder anywhere.

The files are stored in your temp internet folder. defraging will not clear them out. You will need to delete the temp internet files folder to be rid of those pieces.

Trams right.
I'd also suggest defragging more often than once a month. I don't know about anyone else but my computer cruises after a good defrag. Twice a week I defrag my HDD http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif

Just a friendly FYI.
I always make a mental note of the name of the file I'm going to download, sometimes I write it down. That way if for some reason I need to find it and I don't know where it is I go to Start/Find, type in the name of the file and hit the find button. Works every time.
And...many times if when downloading a file, you kill it or stop it, it will remove itself. Just depends on the file and web site. Just remember to do the start/find thingie.
Anyway, good luck all. http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif

Fitzy.. download Go!Zilla. The latest version is free and it will always grab those files that only partially downloaded, and you won't lose any of the data. Other programs say they will resume the download, but inevitably, i have to delete what's downloaded and start over because one or two bytes was 'missed'.
You can get Go!Zilla from www.gozilla.com (http://www.gozilla.com) or Zdnet or Tucows, etc. [end of shameless plug for a great piece of software]

Fitzy,
Download Accelerator Plus is good http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif
I had GoZilla ages ago when I was using Win98SE and it worked well for me. But I don't download much nowadays so I don't use either.

Good call Dave.
Note about Download assistance software:
DAP is a bit harder to configure than GoZilla but does not contain spyware as Go Zilla does. GoZilla is actually a very good piece of software (very easy to use) but the problem was it did not announce that it reported your browsing habits back to it's home server in order to target advertising (to pay for the free version) to the user. If you are happy to allow this practice, you would find GoZilla is a better option than DAP.
Personally, I have used DAP since I discovered what GoZilla does.
