Problems opening programs after re-installing Me

Hi hope someone can help me out!!

I was having a clean up of my SYSTEM folder (I had some viruses) when i accidently deleted a configuration file!! Anyway, I had to re-install Me again, which should be straight forward. But about 65% of the way through the installation froze, so i restarted the setup. After completing the re-install i couldn't open most of my programs up. And most of task list has gone!!

I have access to Internet Explorer and Word, but cannot get into Works, Roxio or my Adobe software. A message pops up saying that i need to re-install the program - so that's what i did. But it still doesn't let me open any of the programs. (i don't have any virusers on my PC anymore)

Any clues what caused this??

I'm thinking of upgrading to XP Home/Pro soon, could i just get rid of all programs and reinstalling them after upgrading to XP??
