I just downloaded the newest netscape 4.76
I wasnt going to reinstall aol AIM chat software so I was surpised to find I now have netscape instant messenger 4.0 which is still aols just with a different name.
First they try to force real radio then winamp and now netscape messenger.
I hope more of you do a custom install when your doing netscape, if not you might just find more software then you want.

Yep irons, NS been doing that since about 4.6x as far as I can recall.
That's why I've stuck with 4.6 after recent reinstall, didn't bother updating to later version.
Plus 4.6 is the most stable NS version yet.

Well 4.75 seems awfully stable to me here.....
I always just trash the messenger that's installed with NS. Seems to work fine for me.

I use NS4.73 and the only time it's ever crashed was due to a site I was visiting had written a really really really poor js. I find it very stable.
...and I thought it was really cheeky of them including messenger. Mind you IE though they don't force it on you, don't exactly discourage you on its latest couple of versions I've found.
Still prefer IE though http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I guess we have to watch either way now because IE make you install MS messager, I really would like the option to install it myself.
and if you use outlook express it will start ms messager every time you start it.

Hey,
There is a way to install Netscape without AOL messenger which I've just found.
Anyone need it ????

Can't a custom download be done, allowing you to download only what you need?
I downloaded IE 5.5 that way, marking off the messenger service and other things like Betmeeting, just so's they wouldn't be downloaded!!
