Not sure of your first question, but if you reinstall WinME then it will overwrite the XP boot files.
You will then need to re-apply the XP boot files.
You can do this via the Recovery Console or by manually applying the files.

no u misunderstood -s-, i have two hardisks master with ME, slave with XP, when i boot up it gives me the option of either bootin with XP or ME? recently i had to wipe ME and reinstall but when i did i couldnt access XP even though it was untouched UNTIL i reinstalled XP too.
but xp wasnt at fault.. so what files do i need 2 remove ON the ME hardisk or save to floopy so next time i wipe ME, i wont have to wipe the XP driver also
see now?

I'm not sure how to help you with your prob. but maybe you can help me. I've got xp and me on my system in dual boot arrangement and want ME gone. How do I keep XP and get rid of ME? THanks

Even though you have the OS' on different drives the boot files are installed to the C drive.
So when you reinstalled ME you wiped the boot loader.
This is why you need to re-apply the XP boot files.

but isnt it possible to save the 'specific' bootfiles? to a floopy? so when i reinstall ME i can just stick em back on.. logically it should be possible
