Right I've got a large problem with my modem. I have several ISP's - ic24, icscotland, Freenetname and Breathe Freely. I happen to use the ic24 and icscotland, more than any of the others, and there is a lot of engage tones. When I do get a connection, my modem just plays around until it disconnects. But because of the nature of ic24, if I don't get get connected then, I DON'T! http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/frown.gif
On 0845 ISP's the modem will get an answer, like it normally does, but it don't get to the verification, it will just disconnect. I do get connected after several attempts. Vut on an 0845 ISP, I get charged, for not surfing the web! The unmetered ones, don't get connected on their first tries.

If anyone can help - Or more information - email me at: Panther@mindyourownbusiness.co.uk

Hi 75 and welcome to CTH.

If i understand right your problem is that when connecting to unmetered ISP's you need to try connecting multiple times but you do get through eventualy.

If i'm right then your problem sounds like a case of a high user to modem ratio, in other words your ISP only have a limited number of modems and a high number of people wanting to connect. I know a couple of people who have the same problem using Red Hot Ant and need to try connecting around a dozen times before they get any success and can't connect at all during peak times (ie 6-8pm). If you want unmetered access i'd suggest you look at www.blueyonder.co.uk (http://www.blueyonder.co.uk) as they have around 50 POP numbers to connect to if you have problems with your local number.

I've been using it for about a year now and have had no problems connecting and their service is generaly very good.
