need help

Excuse me but I am not very computer literate. I recently experienced several power surges and now my computer will not work. When I turn it states "strike F1 to retry boot or F2 to set up utility" When I tried F2 my harddrive is listed along with other specifics about the computer. I was running WindowsME. Please help!

Welcome to CTH. My guess is that something is fried but...
What happens when you press F1... does it show any type of error message? if so what does it say (dont' bother taking down the error number if there is one, just tell us what it says)

Also you could try going into the setup and making sure that the boot order is set so the harddrive (C) is on the boot list. But if you aren't comfortable with the setup, don't change anything because changing the wrong thing can cause even more problems.

Unhappy need help

When I hit F1 the same message reappears and when I ht F2 I can see the harddrive in the utility menu. I also checked the boot sequence and c:, a: and d: are all checked. Any suggestions?

Do you have your problem fixed yet sproulyl? If a power surge caused this it could be some internal damage. I would, since you say you're not very computer literate, find some place to repair it or perhaps find a computer literate friend have a look at it.
