View Full Version : Just stops!

OK, I've got a good one that I've been working on for several days now. I lose internet conncetion on my computer...just stops responding. I run win95b and IE5.1 on a PC through a cable modem. I've checked everything out in Windows and the CMOS settings. I un-installed then reinstalled IE5.1. I installed a new NIC that's working just fine. I ran a registry check...all is OK. You name it, I done it.
But...while I'm on the internet surfing around, I'll go to a new URL and nothing...nothing! I'll try my e-mail...nothing. I'll try a ping...nothing. I'll reboot...works fine again.
This doesn't happen every time I get on the internet, just some times. There's no pattern to it. Any ideas besides reformat and reinstall?
*edit* BTW, this happens when using Netscape Communicator also. I have both IE5 and Netscape installed on my PC, but use mostly IE5.1.

Junky,
I have the same problem mate. It's sooo frustrating. Though I'm on DUN so I kinda blame my ISP for it. But if you're getting this on cable perhaps its a browser issue.
I'll have a think on it because I have done all the tries at fixing it you have suggested already to no avail http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/frown.gif

the only thing I would suggest is shutting down any anti virus scanners and any defenses like zone alarm.
then see if it happens, more then likely its a program stopping you

Hi guys. http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif
MiShY, at least I know I'm not alone with this. If I ever figure it out I'll let every one know. I even called the @home ISP tech support. They had no idea what's going on. *shrug*
ironside, I have Norton Anti Virus, but I don't run it in the background. I learned along time ago to disable it and only run it when I think it necessary.
Thanks to both of you for taking the time to respond. http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif
