windows me crash

Hello all: I have windows me crash> I downloaded updates for windows me and when it was finished and restarted the pc, I got this error message. ( error loading explorer.exe you must reinstall windows a required .dll. filec:\windows\ system\shlapi.dll. was not found ) I had a boot dish made before this happened, but i tryed every thing it said and can not get windows back. This pc was given to me and i do not have the restoration cd 1. but i need 2 and 3 to reinstall windows again. Is there a way to get windows back without the 2 and 3 restoration cd's.

Okay, this is a shot in the dark, but, try starting with the boot disk. Select the option 1 (help). I believe you will receive an option to select a restore point. Select any but the most recent file. Your system should reboot. While it's doing that, eject the floppy so it won't boot to the A drive again.

Here's whats on your help file pertaining to your situation that will steer you in the right direction:

If you have followed the steps outlined in the Safe Mode
Troubleshooter and are still unable to start Windows normally,
do the following:

1. Close this Help file.
2. At the command prompt, type:
scanreg /restore
and then press ENTER.
3. Select the most recent backup date, and then choose Restore.

Should work.
If not, well, someone may have another solution for you.
If you do choose to reinstall Windows, you'll lose everything on your hard drive.
