aos82.exe??

  • Hi - My computer was totally messed up from too many users - too many downloads. I did a complete re-install, installed and updated my McAfee virus scan, ran Adaware and Spybot. I caught a lot of spyware but no viruses. My problem is every time I log on, I get a popup that says "Microsoft Security Check - Microsoft Internet Explorer" and then this file "aos82.exe" is placed directly in my C: drive. Once I close this popup, I delete the file and everything is OK for awhile. However, after some time of surfing my internet connection will go in and out, and most of time I have to reboot. Has anyone seen anything similiar to this and if so - PLEASE HELP! (I don't want to do another re-install!) ps. I am running XP Home, service pack 1 and have all updates. I previously installed service pack 2 but couldn't access the internet at all so went back to SP1.

Welcome to CTH GroovyChick. Lets see what is running on your PC. Go here and download the latest version of Hijack This to a new folder on your drive, unzip it and click on scan. Most of the files listed will be harmless and/or required so do not make any changes, just click on Save Log, copy it and post it back in this thread.

Hi - Thanks for the response but I couldn't stand my computer being so messed up with that file so I did a complete reinstall. I made sure I had SP1 installed first, my McAfee, Spybot and Adaware. I ran all the updates afterwards and then installed SP2 and things are back to normal. I did download and run Hijack This! prior to my re-install but I didn't have the full version so wasn't able to fix the problem. Anyhow, I hope I don't have that happening again. Thanks for the help regardless.
