Cannot find server or DNS Error

I am getting this error message 'Cannot find server or DNS error' when I try to access links within various websites.
I know the links are OK because I checked them out in another computer and they were fine. There's something wrong with my IE5.5 configuration, but I can't find out what it can be.
It even happened when I tried to access my inbox in Hotmail. Typed in my password and got this error message. Hotmail couldn't help because the error is in my setup.
Can someone help me please!

I had a problem that was sort of like yours. I wasn't able to open paypal or amazon. I kept getting the DNS error. I finally found this and it fixed it. http://www.fixieonline.com/pagefix

The whole internet has been and still is half down here. For odd reasons, I can now get some sites on Netscape 8.0 that I still can't on IE, while yesterday, as usual, IE was getting them better and faster. I don't know WHAT is going on!! It's all about got me run nuts.

I sometimes wonder if I've got a conflict going btw IE and Netscape now, that I didn't have at first?
