Just deleted a mess and pile of my junk off Yahoo Geocities. Then I get this WARNING: You do not currently have 'index.html' or 'index.htm' file. I obviously trashed something I shouldn't have!!

Are these important? Where do I get them from? I can't find the answers on Geocities.

Thanks in advance!!

I still seem able to get there for now Irons. I will be concerned about shutting down though, and losing my connection, because then I may not be able to get back in.

Hey,

index.html or index.htm are the first page you get to when you go to a website.

For example here when you go to http://www.cybertechhelp.com you go to http://www.cybertechhelp.com/index.html

the index.html is essentially the "home" of your site.

If you can type in the short url to your site and it still works then click (IE) View/ViewSource and save the txt file of your index.html file. This will be useful incase you have actually deleted it.

Chances are you're viewing your old index.html page from your internet cache atm if you have actually deleted it which is what it sounds like.

Reupload a backup ?

Mishy, I tried your sugggestion and now all I get is an index and parent/sub directories. I hadn't begun building the page yet, but was storing stuff there for when I was ready to start. Needless to say, I'm not fussy about re-uploading, but I will if that solves the problem. That won't solve the problem of the missing files though, will it??

In order for a website to work as intended u need to have an index.html or index.htm page.

The rest of the files you deleted you didn't mention what they were specifically ?

You need to recreate or reupload a backup of your index.html page and this will get rid of the directory listing problem you have atm.
