Question still no sound-winMe

I posted b4 abt no sound-think I deleted "Windows Setup Multtimedia properties." Well, have most of them back now-uploaded drivers, etc. WMe still won't recognize setup.exe, imaadp32.asm, sndvol32.exe, etc., even tho they were uploaded & I specified path/location. Still NO SOUND!!
I didn't consider hardware/speaker problem. Now, I'm willing to try anything!!! DON'T HAVE WinME CD(2ND HAND COMP).
My speakers vol is turned up. I here low, kinda bass? vibration/sound from them. When I log on, modem dialing & conn sound comes thru speakers. But, when connected, NO greeting, bells, dings, ANYTHING, from AOL, INT EX(browser), nothing else. Just dial, beeping, connection then bass vibration sound. Since sound comes thru speakers on conn, I assumed they were hooked up/connected/functioning OK.
COULD I STILL HAVE SPEAKER/HARDWARE PROBLEM??
I've been beating my brains out trying to upload missing drivers, etc for sound/multimedia prop(all volume/mute commands OK).
My HUGE problem is: I have AOL Callalert w/Voicemail. Everything goes thru Windows Media Player on my system. It looks like its playing back but NO SOUND, w/ CD's/comp sounds/AOL sounds/ downloads, etc. I've gone thru all "mediaplayer" troubleshooters. Also, re-installed driver for my internal sound card: OPL3-SAX WDM.
ANY sugg that might restore sound VERY appreciated! (remember--NO WinME CD)
THANKS!!

Your "bells, dings" etc are all .wav files gliderider4u. See if this document helps. How to Troubleshoot Wave Sound File Problems in Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows Millennium Edition (Me).
