I just finished downloading Microsoft SP 1 for Windows 98 SE. After restarting
I observed that everything works correctly except Solitaire. Now Solitaire will not display the status bar, will not time the play, and shows double cards which
should not be. How do I get it back to its original form that shows the status bar, performs timeing and keeps score??? Help please!!

Open the game then click "Game" & "Options" you can then check the relevant boxes for how you want the game to play

Neal;
I thank you for your suggestion but I have already done that and it didn't change anything. Must be something else. Any other suggestions??

You could try uninstalling the games pack and then reinstalling it. I'm a bit unfamiliar with Win98, but I think if you go to ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS then click on the "WINDOWS SETUP" tab and then select ACCESSORIES. Then click DETAILS you should find GAMES in the list displayed. You can then uninstall the games pack from here. I'm not sure whether you will then need your WIN98 disk to reload the games or whether the info will already be on your HD. To be safe; make sure you have got your WIN98 disk before unistalling the games ! ! !

Neal;
Did that but still doesn't work. Solitaire still does not show the status bar, does not time nor score play. Also still have the double card problem. Quite a mystery!!
Any other suggestions??

You're right it's a mystery ! ! ! and I'm afraid I've got no further solutions to offer. However you might want to go here (http://www.freewaregaming.com/cardcasino/123.html) and download a free version that has a few other variations on the Solitaire theme as well.
